A day to appreciate health care workers
Arcata, CA, 2018 -- Valentine’s Day is a special day for the staff and volunteers at Mad River Community Hospital. The Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB) shows their appreciation to healthcare staff by assembling and distributing over 550 gift bags throughout the hospital.
“The gifts are funded by individuals and businesses in the community as a “Thank You,” that is well deserved.” says Larney Ford, President of CHAB. “A Valentine’s Day acknowledgement is a perfect time for us to express the gratitude we have for those who work at the hospital. It’s a great feeling to see the smiles on their faces when we hand out the gifts.”
The Community Health Advisory Board was established in order to provide information and education from Mad River Community Hospital to the public. The volunteer board consists of 14 members and represents Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte Counties. Healthcare has gone through many changes over the years and the input from the CHAB members is a way the hospital can learn about the needs of the community.
CHAB meets once and month to discuss topics such as yearly goals, education for the public, community concerns regarding healthcare needs, events, and hospital recruitment. CHAB is always open to accepting new volunteers.
