Arcata, CA- Put your best wheel forward because Mad River Community Hospital will be an Energizer Station for Bike to Work Day. May is National Bike Month and Mad River Community Hospital (MRCH) is pleased to announce that they have partnered with Bike Month Humboldt to encourage the community and their employees to ride their bikes for fitness, transportation, reducing carbon emissions, and for fun. The goal is to promote safe bicycling and physical activity by encouraging employees to ride their bikes work and throughout the county all month long.
On Thursday, May 10th is Bike to Work Day. MRCH will be an “Energizer Station” for employees and community members who participate in riding their bikes to work. From 6:30am-9am in front of the Shaw Pavilion there will be coffee donated by Dutch Bros, healthy fruits and granola bars, a bike rack for employees to lock up their bikes, and a place for bicyclist to sit and relax while they enjoy their energizing snack. There will also be a raffle for participants to win a hydration pack.
MRCH promotes a healthy community in a number of ways. The 2 acre farm and hydroponic greenhouse produce fresh fruits and vegetables all year long; the Green Committee is currently reducing single-use plastics in the café; recycled and composted waste is greater than the amount of trash that goes in the landfill; and our Emergency Preparedness program teaches employees how to be prepared for disasters. Creating a healthy and resilient community is important to Mad River Hospital and being a part of Bike Month Humboldt supports the community as a whole in becoming a healthier environment for everyone.
