Nestled in the Northern California coast line is the quaint, beautiful town of Arcata, where couples stroll through farmers’ markets on the weekends and Humboldt State University students enjoy attending college basketball games. It’s a progressive town with an emphasis on innovative products, homegrown food and preserving the magnificent environment. Part of what makes Humboldt County so special is all of our unique artisan products made by local artists and producers.
Arcata is a beautiful place to live and work. Home to Humboldt State University, Arcata offers many of the amenities of much larger cities: music, art, educational programs, lectures, cuisine, boutiques and night life. College of the Redwoods, a community college, provides further educational opportunities just 15 miles south. Our Humboldt schools are excellent, and housing in the area is very affordable, with more Victorian architecture than perhaps anywhere else on the West Coast. The County is an artistic haven, with the second highest number of artists per capita in the state of California.
If you prefer to get outdoors, there is no better place than our Redwood Coast, which offers outstanding opportunities for beach combing, surfing, river rafting, kayaking, hiking, camping, sailing, ocean and world class ocean and river fishing, cycling, hunting and more. Humboldt County contains more than 100 miles of unspoiled coastline, hundreds of thousands of acres of redwood trees, and several wild rivers, as well as seaports, farmland, and historical areas. The County is home to ten State Parks and some of the most diverse natural resources on the West Coast. The County is also home to the Redwood National and State Parks, which have been designated as a United Nations Biosphere Region and World Heritage Site. The World Wildlife Fund has identified the County as part of one of the most diverse eco-regions left on the planet and named it to its Global 200 list.
